The Punchbowl, on Blorenge Mountain 9th January 2021

A steady climb up from our house to the Punchbowl pond on the Blorenge. It was a freezing cold winter's day, with snow on the higher levels, ice on the pond and a hoary frost on the trees.

Gospel Pass, Black Mountains, 29th December 2020

Towards the north of the Black Mountains lies Gospel Pass which, at around 1800 feet is the highest road in Wales. It is remote and high and desolate, frequently snowy in the winter, as was the case on this trip.

Betws-y-Coed, 15th November 2020

The valley around the Afon Llugwy roars with the sound of the river, so full at this time of year. Just before the river meets its bigger cousin, the Afon Conwy, it runs under Pont-y-Pair in the picturesque village of Betws-y-Coed. It was there that I watched a heron perched above the rushing water.

The beautiful ancient beech and oak woodlands of St Mary's Vale and the babbling Nant Iago are just a mile or so from Abergavenny. A magical place.

Grwyne Fawr Reservoir, Black Mountains, 17th October 2020

In one of the quieter parts of the Black Mountains, a slow climb to the top of the ridge, where the wild ponies roam the moor, is followed by a descent to the picturesque reservoir and dam.

Hartland Quay and Speke's Mill Mouth, North Devon, September 2020

So many beautiful locations on the North Devon coast. Like Hartland Quay, scene of many shipwrecks on its jagged rocks, to the Speke's Mill Mouth, where the surfers come to enjoy waves which have travelled across the Atlantic to meet them.
